Over a year after Mark Peel (Campanile, Tar Pit) introduced The Point to Culver City residents, seems like the casual eatery is suffering and just might shutter. Eater received a note explaining that a diner tried to use his Groupon at The Point and was told that the restaurant no longer accepted Groupons. The disappointed diner wrote to Peel and here's the response he received:
"I am sorry we were not able to honor your Groupon today. Groupon launched the program for The Point last August without my permission or approval at a very deep discount with a very long life and sold thousands of them. We tried to make the best of it in an embarrassing situation and we did get some money from them initially. In the long run, however, it has turned out to be a disaster. As of a few days ago I did not intend to reopen. We opened today as an experiment to see if we could at least break even with a smaller staff, a much smaller menu and no Groupon. Groupon has cost us tens of thousands of dollars; if we continue with it we cannot remain open. I don't know what to tell you about your remaining Groupons. I believe Groupon should refund your ten dollars. Again I am very sorry, but as a business I think we are done."·Exclusive First Look: Peel and Perrin's The Point [~ELA~]
