Aburiya Toranoko Opens January 26, Check Out The Menu

New, 6 comments

Aburiya Toranoko, the first of Michael Cardenas' (founder of IDG, Lazy Ox) fleet of new restaurants, opens next Wednesday right next door to Cardenas' other wildly successful eatery, Lazy Ox Canteen. In the kitchen one will find chef/partner Hisa Kawabe a 15 year Nobu Matsuhisa alum, who will produce the food alongside Taku Sugawara a 16 year NM alum. The comprehensive izakaya menu is both exotic and edgy, broken down into the following sections: Vegetable, Seafood, Beef/Pork/Poultry, Sumiyaki, Oden, Rice/Noodle/Soup, Sushi/Rolls. For example there's house made shiokara marinated intestines ($6), beef tongue in marinated miso ($8), but those who don't want to play on the wild side can opt for a standard roll, miso soup with clams ($5), or a whole slew of veggie dishes.

To drink Cardenas offers all means of hot, cold and sparkling sake, plum wine, red/white wine, Japanese beer, and cocktails like a shiso leaf-infused vodka martini. Just one more reason to visit Little Tokyo, downtown's potential new gastronomic central.
