Patina Launches Ray's & Stark Bar March 4 at LACMA

New, 3 comments

Chef Kris Morningstar, most recent flame tamer at George Abou-Daoud's District and Mercantile, has signed on as executive chef at LACMA's forthcoming eatery, Ray's. The venue was named after film producer and LACMA trustee Ray Stark, features mid-century furniture, and design by architect Renzo Piano. Although it's tough to see in the rendering above, Ray's is composed of three floor-to-ceiling glass walls plus a fourth wall made of corrugated cement. Then, step outside into Stark Bar, a lounge area with long bar and table seating for 150. As for Morningstar's menu, he collaborated with Patina Restaurant Group founder Joachim Splichal to conceive a Mediterranean farm-to-table menu with dishes emerging from the restaurant's wood-burning oven and wood grill (an open kitchen enables guests to watch the kitchen commotion in action). Stark Bar will serve a separate menu and offer seasonal cocktails, a California-centric wine list, and artisan beers and spirits.
