Eater caught up with Local 1205 owner Craig Weiss earlier today to get a sneak peek of the forthcoming cafe, raw bar and gourmet marketplace. Weiss has been in the bar business in NY and LA for years (The Otherroom, etc.); this is his first food-focused establishment. It was announced earlier today that Local 1205 was open. In fact, the place is still under construction, but will open to the public in a couple of weeks. Designers from MM Identity Lab have crafted an airy, vaulted space with plenty of graphical, eye-catching elements. Industrial-style furnishings come from Paris. Marketplace goods and seafood will come from across the globe, but will feature local purveyors. Local 1205 is sourcing juice from local Norwalk Juicer -- a cold-pressed juicery. Superfood smoothies and fresh produce will be on offer next to flowers, gourmet dried goods, cheeses, charcuterie and a raw bar. A deli case full of prepared foods will compete with nearby GTA's offerings. Gourmet sandwiches, grilled and prepared to order will be available, as well bread from Red Rooster.
Weiss is proud to be the first importer of Katz's deli products including pastrami, frankfurters, salami and corned beef. Weiss is bringing in Jamon Iberico de Bellota, that cured ham from the Spanish black-footed pig. Russ & Daughters will also be a purveyor. An important note: There will be smoked salmon sandwiches. They will be served with double-whipped caviar cream cheese. Local 1205 will not be serving alcohol. Fortunately, there's always The Otherroom. Local 1205 will soft open on Monday, November 21.
