Last night a reader sent over a note pointing to Evan Kleiman, chef and host of KCRW's Good Food, and a note she recently had posted on Facebook regarding her well established Italian restaurant Angeli Caffe: "I'm closing Angeli. I'm bereft and verklempt sharing this news. January 8th is our last night. Please come say bye and share a couple of 'last meals' with us." LAW, LAT, and LAist too reported the shutter, citing the eatery's 27-year tenure on Melrose. Kleiman told the LAT, "I was open for years when I probably should have closed...It was my personal mission to get my employees past the worst of the recession, and I absorbed a lot of losses personally in order to do that and just can’t do it anymore." Going forward, Kleiman plans to continue catering.
