Govind Armstrong's much buzzed about next act is Post & Beam, opening in Baldwin Hills tomorrow for dinner. Along with partners Brad Johnson (BLT Steak, The Roxbury) and David Borrego (The Raymond, Wolfgang Puck), Armstrong is going for something casual, but in the Baldwin Hills' Crenshaw District, something that is going to stand out. Other options in the area include Fatburger, Hot Dog on a Stick and Charley's Steakery. With all of its posts and beams in place, Post & Beam's decor dabbles in mid-century modern, with clean lines and pops of color. A sizable patio is filled with herbs and leafy greens -- all meant to service the kitchen inside. The bar, which seats up to 10, offers a view of the kitchen and pizza oven. There's no burger on the menu here. It's a small plates-type place with an emphasis on hand-stretched, wood-fired pizzas. Larger plates, like boneless beef short ribs, beer-brined pork chops and cast iron chicken, are also on offer. With a short and sweet wine and beer list, this may just be what the neighborhood ordered.
