Inside Mezze's Nearly Complete Digs, Opening Shortly

New, 1 comment

Almost five months after Eater's initial looksee, here's how Mezze has progressed in the old Sona home on La Cienega. Chef Micah Wexler (Craft, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon) along with general manager, Michael Kassar (Spago), and managing partners, Matt Bendik and David Koral (Voyeur), are thrilled to enter the final leg of construction for their inaugural restaurant as Real Restaurant Group, which highlights both Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors crafted from seasonal farmers market produce and other local purveyors.

As one can see above, Mezze is nearing completion, the design, lead by Waldo Fernandez (Soho House), strives to embody a sophisticated Eastern Mediterranean feel with floors crafted out of repurposed wood from Lebanon and those colorful handcrafted tiles sourced out of Morocco. Rewinding back to Sona days, the venue could, during busy evenings, feel claustrophobic, so to combat this issue Fernandez added a large center skylight to draw in an abundance of natural light, a glass-enclosed kitchen, and floor to ceiling glass doors which open out to a narrow patio overlooking La Cienega (there's heaters out there for cooler weather).

As for specific menu offerings, expect small plates serving nightly until midnight such as Veal Manti with Almond Milk and Black Lime; Yellowtail Crudo with Toasted Pine Nuts and Cherry Gremolata; Wood-Oven Farm Chicken with Zatar and Natural Jus; and Merguez Flatbread with Tomato Jam and Aleppo. But, remember, the focus here is on seasonality so the menu will remain influx.

To drink look for seasonal cocktails conceived by Vegas mixologist Michael Monrreal, in addition to wines from California and Middle Eastern Vineyards, plus a few Middle Eastern beers.

On Monday Mezze will undergo its final inspections and open shortly thereafter.
