Guy's and Guys & Dolls, both of which claimed 8713 Beverly Boulevard at various times, have rolled through many iterations. Original proprietor Guy Starkman, son of the owner of Jerry's Famous Deli next door, retooled Guy's back in 2007/2008 into this uber exclusive abode, which eventually relocated to the now shuttered Luau space in BH. Guy's fell into the hands of Michael Sutton (Lodge, Goa, Charcoal) who renamed the venue Guys & Dolls, though Sutton eventually ran the club into the ground, all the while there was underage drinking going on, and even a fatal shooting. Yup, time for a change.
We've known for a while that Starkman reclaimed control of Guys & Dolls with plans to transform the venue into an entirely new concept along with partner Darren Dzienciol. The two most recently worked together opening another evening haunt, Trousdale, along with nightlife impresario Brent Bolthouse.
Anyway, here's the latest. Word on the street is that the venue's new name is The Beverly, expected to open May 19 pending final permitting. As it now stands Guy and Darren are involved, rumor has it Brent will probably join the party as well.
As for design, Built Inc., Guy's original architects, are orchestrating the creative here, along with guidance from Darren. Think reclaimed and salvaged wood from the 1800s, Edison bulbs, lots of amber light, a subway tunnel leads from the main room to bathrooms, new trees on the patio, vintage salvaged industrial pipes from Ohio, 14 gauge steel veneering around the fireplace, absolutely no sign of the former Guy & Dolls whatsoever.
On tap to craft liquid nitrogen cocktails, Top Chef alum Marcel Vigneron, who tested the waters making boozy liquid nitro snow cones this weekend at Trousdale's Coachella estate. More to come.
