Now open in Westwood, Roscoe's newest competition: Waffle Chix. A modern joint serving riffs on the popular combination of fried chicken and waffles, Waffle Chix isn't all just poultry and waffled cakes. Manager Anthony Taverna says they're just serving "slow cooked foods" from their childhood, with recipes that were "rediscovered when visiting relatives." Waffle Chix opened just two days ago and the coop has been packed ever since.
Menu items include scrambled skillets -- basically scrambled eggs with sausage, bacon, vegetables and/or gravy. There's a menu of side orders with 26 separate items listed, including every kind of cut of chicken served battered and fried, just in case you want a fried chicken wing and nothing else. There's a list of waffle sandwiches (served on "waffle bread"), including the obligatory fried chicken version. A roasted chicken waffle sandwich comes with alfalfa sprouts.
