You may have heard of Hakkasan, and you may have not. The shmancy Cantonese restaurant first hit London in 2001, since then its modern Chinese eats have garnered a Michelin star, and owner Alan Yau has expanded his brand to Abu Dhabi, Mumabi, and Miami (opened within the Fontainebleau Hotel in 2009). Alan Yau, by the way, is also the founder of Wagamama, the worldwide Asian noodle chain.
So Yau wants to expand elsewhere in the US and word on the street is that he is in talks of a joint venture with SBE. Nothing is set in stone, nothing official, but supposedly reps are actively searching for an LA location. [EaterWire]
