85°C Brings Sea Salt Lattes & Taro Bread to Hacienda Heights

Welcome to Meanwhile, In SGV a regular feature in which TC, our fearless leader in all things San Gabriel Valley, brings word of restaurant openings, closings, and other unsung, curious neighborhood goings on.

85°C, Taiwan's largest coffee/bakery chain, will debut its second US store in Hacienda Heights come July. This marks the 606th cafe for the rapidly expanding chain (63 stores in Shanghai alone!). In 2010, the first US outpost, located in Irvine, grossed $8 million, a record for the holding company. The second store will, of course, also be situated in a nondescript suburban strip mall, and will no doubt carry the same Chinese slanted buns and bakery items (think rou sung rolls, taro bread, and cream cheese buns). Sea Salt Latte lovers can begin jumping up and down with joy starting NOW.
