Is French food pretentious? Gourmet restaurants across France are cutting prices for a week in September with the goal of shedding that image. Laurent Plantier, head of Alain Ducasse Entreprise, says people often choose chain restaurants over gourmet ones because "you'll get a warm welcome, you're not scared of the menu, and you don't feel ridiculous."
