1) Santa Monica: Posted on Josie's website runs the following: "We've been waiting with quiet anticipation for the past few months, and we're happy to report that construction is in full swing on Next Door by Josie, 50 seats of casual deliciousness located, well, next door to Josie..." According to management this more casual Josie spinoff is still three-ish months away. So much for that April debut. [EaterWire]
2) West LA: Plywood is up at the corner of Sawtelle and Nebraska for a new restaurant and bar called Plan Check. Design is handled by Raveled Studio and per the eatery's website, Plan Check is expected to open late fall. [EaterWire]
3) West Hollywood: For months now Mark's on La Cienega has been under construction and under the stewardship of Rose Entertainment Group to rebrand the space into a French bistro called Rose Merci. Per this Craigslist posting, the restaurant is "inspired by the joie de vivre of 1960s St. Tropez" and strives to "captures the essence of the French Riviera lifestyle." Rose Merci will also serve as the hospitality company's flagship restaurant, with, perhaps, additional outposts opening down the line. Meanwhile, management is holding an open casting call for a few positions until 4PM today. [EaterWire]
4) Downtown: Just next door to Arashi Sushi comes a new Italian restaurant under the name Il Mare at 1111 S. Hope St. Not a ton of details, but it's probably safe to say this is a new Southern Italian concept slated to serve... seafood. [EaterWire]
5) West Hollywood: There's a Notice of Public Hearing taped into the window of the Laurel Hardware store on Santa Monica Blvd near the French Market. The hearing isn't until July 13 but owners want to open a restaurant with booze in the space. [EaterWire]
