Ever since the first post went up on Monday, there has been an audible buzz about Plan Check restaurant and bar which will open this coming November/December on Sawtelle near Nebraska. Owner Terry Heller, an LA native who, up until now, worked as a real estate developer, always wanted to delve into the world of hospitality. Ideally, he aspired to open a blue collar neighborhood restaurant, and after a 14 month search he decided on the above pictured venue which boasts an abundance of free street parking all around (score!).
Plan Check will serve as equal parts pub and restaurant offering affordable small plates with an American seasonally-inspired slant. However, Heller does want to respect the neighborhood in which Plan Check resides, so expect to find an ode to Japan every once in a while. With regard to booze, Plan Check will focus on whiskey, in addition to vino and a mix of craft and mainstream beers. Remember, this is a neighborhood spot, not just a hipster haunt.
The 1,800 square foot restaurant boasts a large outdoor patio that seats about 50, inside the eatery seats 60, there are two bars total, and Heller plans to stamp his menus with the daily offerings in front of each patron has he/she enters. Heller also stressed the importance of service and great hospitality, and he intends to work hard to ensure that each guest has a great experience service-wise.
