Minor delays held up the opening of Taberna Mexicana, and for those considering dinner on opening night tomorrow, here's what to expect. The old Luau home has been completely and entirely retooled by Phoenix based architect and design firm Bar Napkin Productions to reflect a laid back Mexican aesthetic with indoor and patio seating for 110, plus lounging room by the bar, and six outdoor sidewalk tables.
Chef Alex Padilla (Boulevard, SF) crafts Mexican fare such as Ceviches, Cochinita Pibil, Pumpkin Seed Crusted Scallops, Lamb Shank Marinated with Pasilla Chiles, Pasta with Mussels, Squid and Shrimp, Prime Rib with Mole Rub, Sopa De Albondigas, and Braised Duck Tacos. You can peruse the full menu here. To drink anticipate fruity libations like a cilantro caipirinha, pisco punch, and a habanero-infused vodka mudded with strawberries, lemon and turbinado sugar.
