Nine months after brother and sister team Bricia and Fernando Lopez morphed the original location of their family's staple Oaxacan restaurant, Guelaguetza, into another Mexican abode, Pal Cabron, Bricia dials in with a lengthy letter announcing the newer venue's shutter:
"Dear friends, First and foremost, I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all your support on the launch of our first independent venture, Pal Cabron. We were overwhelmed by the stories and postings, each of which meant so much to me and my family. The love you gave our humble place was so amazing and we are beyond thankful for it. Secondly, I wanted to share with you all of some news on Pal Cabron and on the heart and soul of my family, Guelaguetza. My brother and I have made a decision on shifting our entire focus on Guelaguetza, our family’s business that I see as a place with endless possibilities. While opening and operating Pal Cabron, I was dually entrenched in Guelaguetza and over time, I realized I was not putting in all the time I really wanted to in my first love, in the business that has made all of my family’s dreams come true -Guelaguetza-. There is so much work left to do and I look forward to continuing to take a leadership role at Guelaguetza, one that requires my full attention. I’m thankful for what I've learned while running Pal Cabron, my first but certainly not last independent project, and will take the creativity and energy we infused at Pal Cabron back with us to Guelaguetza full time. While it is a bit saddening, we rejoice in all of our future projects. Great things are still to come! Also, for those of you who are fans of our tacos arabes and antojitos, we will continue to provide food inside Las Perlas for the summer, in case any of you are interested in stopping by and getting your taco arabe fix and washing it down with mezcal ;) Thank you for all for your continuing love and support."And for those wondering about Natura, Bricia and Fernando's attached Mexican juice and ice cream bar, that, too, has shuttered.
