Opening next week, here, now we have the latest project from Spacecraft Design Group: Mohawk Bend. The one time vaudeville theater has come a long way with the help of Tony Yanow (of Tony's Darts Away fame). Exposed brick, tufted stools, foliage and (the dreaded) communal table fill the space and give it light and depth. There's a long bar, several dining areas, an open kitchen and even a cozy fireplace. High ceilings, beams and skylights give the eye a place to wander.
Meanwhile, the neighborhood will certainly appreciate the menu. As expected, there's a vegan focus (chickpea beer nuts, fire-roasted artichokes, vegan pizza margarita), but meat-eaters will leave satisfied too with burgers, seafood and real cheese. We sort of love that the vegan menu items will be prepared on the vegan side of the kitchen, so as not to taint them with any animal protein. Better, the bar is the same size as the open kitchen. Dare we suggest Tony's taken the bar concept into Father's Office territory? Mohawk Bend sports 70 beers on tap, and the selection is directed towards high-end varieties. There are also California wines on tap. Set to open for dinner seven days a week (and, eventually lunch as well), this is a Spacecraft space to see. [EaterWire]
