Tales of the Cocktail Kicks Off in New Orleans

Have you noticed the dearth of mixologists around Los Angeles at this very moment? That's because they've all trekked out to Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans. Aka, the olympics of the cocktail world. This year Tales kicked off in front of the Hotel Monteleone on Wednesday with a toast, followed by the World's Largest Genever Slurp hosted by Bols Genever.

Later in the evening cocktail fans gathered at the grand Gallier Hall for the Welcome Masquerade Ball sponsored by Beefeater. Guests sucked down boozy gin libations crafted by some of the US and UK's top mixologists inclusive of Audrey Saunders, Nick Strangeway, Dan Warner, Nick Van Tiel, and Erick Castro, just to name a few. As far as LA mixologists we spotted 213's Cedd Moses, David Kaplan (Death & Co., who is working on his own LA bar, or two), Naomi Schimek (Spare Room), Chad Solomon (Tar Pit), Christy Pope (Tar Pit) and author David Wondrich.
