SIV is on vacation this week (and apparently so is J.Gold) so LAT writer Jessica Gelt steps in to share her two cents on Mas Malo. Right off the bat she warns diners of the addictive chewy tortilla chips and the strong cocktails, overall the restaurant "specializes in an unsubtle version of Mexican cuisine" crafted by Chef Robert Luna who "says he's making food inspired by what he grew up eating in East L.A." Standouts include the beef-and-pickle taco that "drips with juicy goodness," the eggplant-and-potato hard tacos and the grilled soft fish tacos that "satisfy," and the al pastor "[p]erhaps the tastiest main course." Another warning: "[T]he food at Más Malo is — a decadent, festive indulgence...Don't bother going if you're counting calories." [LAT]
