Boteco Brazilian, Medium Rare Plus, Dorados, Xokolatl Cafe

Welcome to Meanwhile, In SGV a regular feature in which TC, our fearless leader in all things San Gabriel Valley, brings word of restaurant openings, closings, and other unsung, curious neighborhood goings on.

1) Alhambra: Boteco Brazilian is listed as "Coming Summer 2011," which is... now? Its Facebook page promises "lots of picanhas, tapas style. Small portions. No All You Can Eat BBQ like most of the other Brazilian Restaurants." This restaurant-bar-lounge is the fourth project by Richard Valenzuela and Alfred Campano in downtown Alhambra. Thanks to Wandering Chopsticks for this tip. 28 W Main St.

2) Alhambra: Across the street from Boteco is Medium Rare Plus, a casual steak house which replaced 39 Cuban. Medium Rare Plus received $113,000 for tenant improvement assistance from the city of Alhambra, and has been in the works since January of '11. No opening date announced. 39 W Main St.

3) Monterey Park: Dorados finally re-opened. With SGV temps creeping well into the 90s this week, the refreshing ceviches at Dorados seems apropos. 440 S Atlantic Blvd.

4) El Sereno: The much loved Xokolatl Cafe in El Sereno, operated by the The Council of Trustees of Semillas Sociedad Civil and benefiting Semillas Community Schools, has ceased service to the public as of June 25. The space, which shared an entrance with the Cal State LA Federal Credit Union, will continue to function as a teaching kitchen and double as the school cafeteria. 4987 Huntington Dr. N
