NORTH HOLLYWOOD— Almost two years ago Curbed reported that NoHo's "Barrel" building was set to gain Historic-Cultural status, something that would at least protect it from destruction. Today comes word that the old Idle Hour Café that was housed in the building for many years will be restored to its former glory. [LAist]

K-TOWN—The Korean American Coalition hosts the Third Annual Korean BBQ Cook-off in Koreatown this Saturday, August 6. Part block party, part competition, the event features four local chefs who will compete for a $1,000 cash prize and for the title of Top Grill Master. Author Simon Majumdar, actor James Kyson-Lee, Ambassador Yeon-sung Shin, Consul General of the Republic of Korea and LA Weekly's Jonathan Gold will be judging.
