Waaaay back in 2008 we spotted the liquor license for a new Caffe Primo downtown, and have been tracking it ever since. The downtown corner of Flower and Wilshire has been a plywood zone for over three years as city officials and Caffe Primo owner Tony Riviera (shuttered Borracho Cantina) worked out the kinks on this expansive new setting. Inside the Pegasus Apartments building, the space is airy and cool, with plenty of seating including a bar and separate coffee bar, and a few communal tables. Downtown's Caffe Primo serves the same menu of Italian pastries, panini, pizza, gelati, coffee, wine and beer as the Sunset outpost. Signage out front proudly states, "All businesses open," and plywood is gone, but operating hours are still in flux. Call first.
