The second Los Angeles installment of the swanky, colorful NYC-based modern Mexican chainlet (fun fact: the first ever location opened in 1984), Rosa Mexicano, is preparing for its closeup. In August of 2009 the powers that be launched Rosa Mexicano at LA Live, and tonight a pink and purple-hued twin shows its colors on Sunset Boulevard next to Dolce Group's recently opened Lemon Basket.
It's hard to recognize the space that formerly served as Tony Riviera's ill-fated Borracho Cantina. In place of those awkward hanging lights and drab brown furniture comes a more spunky Mexican aesthetic brought to life via oversized round booths, stained glass windows, and an assortment of Mexican knickknacks.
Food and drink menus don't veer too far off course from offerings available downtown, here's a look at ways to imbibe, meanwhile the dinner menu looks mostly like this save for some new additions like a shrimp roll, vegetable quesadillas with fresh huitlacoche, and hamachi tartare. Dinner kicks off tonight with lunch and happy hour to follow on August 15.
