Chef Aaron Zigler and owner Alex Movahed are behind the newest lunch spot in Beverly Hills, Urban Fresh. Opening this week, Urban Fresh promises a menu of upscale sandwiches, salads, and daily specials influenced by urban (read: diverse) cuisines and farm fresh produce. Order from among daily chalkboard specials or by peeking into Urban Fresh's deli cases. Salads like roasted rapini and Persian Olivieh (a type of Persian potato salad with chicken, hard-boiled egg and English peas) will rotate with the seasons and the chef's whims.
A printed menu offers a more extensive list of sandwiches and salads including a beef Brisket and classic Salad Nicoise ($7-$11). All of Urban Fresh's sandwiches can be served cold, pressed or as a wrap. Bread choices include lavash, ciabatta and seven-grain. Urban Fresh is especially excited about their vegetarian wild mushroom sandwich; "It's incredibly satisfying," says Zigler.
It seems that every restaurant now sports a signature burger, and Urban Fresh is no exception. The Urban Fresh Burger is made from Boulder Creek natural beef that is hand-ground to the restaurant's specifications. Similar attention has been paid to Urban Fresh's coffee. It is blended for them by a local purveyor. Bread is sourced from Breadbar. Looking ahead, Zigler plans to add breakfast specials and eventually hand-made pastas and gnocchi to the chalkboard menus.
Design elements include marble tables on iron legs, classic galvanized Marais chairs and lots of glass set on a background of white with punches of bright leaf green. Soft opening this Saturday, Urban Fresh will serve breakfast and lunch daily from 8AM to 6PM.
