"There just wasn't enough business," said a nearby shop owner about the recent closure of Rockenwagner Bakery and Beachy Cream, the two main shops at The Market at Santa Monica Place. Rockenwagner's beautiful woodwork remains, while the kitchen equipment, oven and other furnishings have been stripped from the space. There is now an old horse buggy where Beachy Cream's center kiosk and counter lived. The Market at Santa Monica Place had never leased all of its spaces, but these two recent shutters leave the space at only 50% occupancy. Rockenwagner's other locations (on Arizona in Santa Monica, Washington in Culver City and Abbot Kinney in Venice) are still going strong.
In other news, L'Artisan du Chocolate is now operating under the name Chocolate Opulence.
