After hosting a NYE preview Brian Malarkey tells us he has been conducting test meals at Gingham, his La Mesa BBQ pit. Apparently that hard NYE opening has now become a soft one for today, the restaurant's firm opening. Above, a teaser shots of the completed place. Interestingly, Malarkey says he will be “playing sous to Ryan Studebaker,” who is the restaurant's chef de cuisine and has a bit more experience jockeying smokers? though the animated chef is quick to point out that at the end of “it’s all about me.” Next up will be Gabardine, a seafood concept slated to open on Valentine’s Day in the San Diego neighborhood of Point Loma. –David Morris
