The Black Cat Resurfaces in Sunset Junction

Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

Previously reported as The Village Idiot's new Silver Lake outpost, it appears as though the old Le Barcito/Black Cat spot is returning as The Black Cat, per an updated ABC license and banner signage outside the site which reads "the cat will be back." A few months ago it looked like construction had just broken, and now the former dive bar and laundromat conversion is getting a patio that juts into the adjacent parking lot. At the moment, construction seems to be humming along, with at least a few months more to go before opening.

With Black Hogg retooling down Sunset Boulevard and Black Sheep opening Downtown, there's no shortage of "black" restaurants coming to the Eastside. There's also Black Cat Bakery on Fairfax, but that's been open for almost two years now. Black is the new black, it seems.
