Steve Ells, founder and co-CEO of Chipotle, is preparing to launch ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen in Santa Monica, the first of which opened one year ago in Washington D.C. Following the same Chipotle model but applied to cuisines from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore, guests customize bowls composed of jasmine rice, brown rice, rice noodles, or a salad, then add grilled chicken satay or steak laab, pork and chicken meatballs, or organic tofu, followed by veggies, a sauce, and a "crispy topping" like toasted rice, crispy garlic or crushed peanuts.

Slated to open in early 2013, this Los Angeles location will be the third ShopHouse across the country and the first in Southern California. [EaterWire]
