While rewarding, navigating traffic to The SGV for a xiao long bao fix isn't always time permitting. So, the prospect of a quality soup dumpling spot launching in the 310 has generated quite the buzz. Chef/owner Perry Cheung is behind ROC Star, and over the weekend he opened doors for test runs. Word on the street is that Cheung is still retooling the menu and maybe even the restaurant's name as well (notice no exterior signage). No word on the debut, however right now Cheung is opening the restaurant as he sees fit, but only at night. Once officially serving, ROC Star will offer lunch and dinner, and vie for attention on the ethnically diverse strip of Sawtelle near Mississippi which already boasts Italian, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Korean cuisine.
