On October 17 the previous Kaiten Sushi, which shuttered months ago on Ventura, was reborn as yet another sushi concept, Okumura, though rather different in nature than its predecessor. While Kaiten Sushi celebrated its "sushi boats" and rock and roll rolls, chef Ryota Okumura's namesake restaurant focuses on simple sushi and roll preparations, in addition to a few hot plates. Okumura, who was born in Hong Kong but grew up in Palos Verdes, was trained as a chef at Hattori Culinary Academy in Japan and is now excited to share his new eatery with the denizens of Encino. Hours of operation run Mon to Sat, lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. [ELA]
