Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

Though previous news indicated that Ozumo would be moving out of Santa Monica Place, it was unclear whether or not the restaurant would specifically take over the former Abode space located in an alcoved nook off Ocean Avenue. However, word just in that a private investment group is in the thick of re-purposing the previously uber-modern restaurant into a California-Spanish Revivalist eatery and bar named 41 Ocean. Details on the food and beverage programs are still influx, but management says that a "big-time celebrity chef" will helm the member's only club's kitchen.
With the design and build out spearheaded by Matt Winter (Sassafras, Oldfield's), the hacienda-like expanse will occupy three rooms and spread out on the patio space between the adjacent buildings. The front area that extends out onto Ocean Avenue will be closed off and the entrance will be routed to the back alley, where a valet stand will take cars.

Winter is installing tile work right now and plans to adorn the space with vintage relics sourced from swap meets and estate sales. Furniture is being sourced the same way. Management is looking at a December debut, pending the usual setbacks.
