When the Thompson Hotel in Beverly Hills first hit LA, the property debuted with a branch of Manhattan's established Japanese/sushi spot Bond Street, but surprisingly the sceney restaurant never much caught on. Years later, after menu and chef shuffles, the ground floor restaurant was re-conceptualized into Caufield's, an ode to Americana, open as of one year ago. Yet still more changes.
On Thursday Caufield's, now operating as Caulfield's Bar and Dining Room, shows off its retooled space designed by Heather Ashton, creative director for HD Buttercup. New to the venue is a 12-seat marble-top communal table, vintage furniture and lighting fixtures. Chef Stephen Kalt, a partner in Fornelletto at the Borgata in Atlantic City, takes over the menu with a list of Mediterranean-influensed American grill items inclusive of duck breast with Gaviota strawberries, Padrón peppers; and a lobster club sandwich.
