The scene was a mix of art enthusiasts and food lovers last night at Bel Air Bar + Grill's friends and family reopening. Susan Disney Lord directed the renovation and reconceptualization of the space along with designers KFA and Weil Studio. The completely redone property now houses not only Bel Air Bar + Grill but also The Shack (a to-go sandwich and cafe operation), an office and banquet space for The Roy Disney Foundation, and an exceptional and rotating selection of art by students at CalArts.
At night, while the exterior glows with fiery florals, the interior glows within from two fireplaces and the golden light that shines upon the paintings and drawings that adorn the walls. It's a pleasant space that will serve the neighborhood and community well. While this is a restaurant that puts art ever so slightly ahead of its food, Chefs/brothers Gonzalo and Rafa have created a New American menu that is both comforting and flavor intensive. Tucked away just off the messy 405/Sunset junction, Bel Air Bar & Grill reopens to the public tonight.
