Welcome to Meanwhile, In SGV a regular feature in which TC, our fearless leader in all things San Gabriel Valley, brings word of restaurant openings, closings, and other unsung, curious neighborhood goings on.

1) San Gabriel: OO-Kook, K-town's "premium" all-you-can-eat barbecue house, is coming to SGV. Per on-site management, they're hoping to finish gutting the old Sizzler by the end of the year. Yes, there is a bit of Korean beef deja vu, but West SGV has suffered a dearth of good Korean food for decades. 5405 Rosemead Blvd.

2) Alhambra: The oldest restaurant in the city, Yama, recently completed a nip and tuck along with a menu update. New ownership advises that a grand re-opening will continue until November 24 featuring a name-your-own-price special. 433 W Main St.

3) Monterey Park: Management behind Pho Ga Bac Ninh is opening Pho Bo Bac Ninh next door. The namesake dish is a beef pho done up Northern style. Irony: this space used to host a vegetarian grocery. 605 N New Ave. Ste D

4) San Gabriel: One on One has replaced Ching Chong Wing Wang. Banking on Lakers popularity, this personal hot potting joint riffs Boiling Point's menu, and gets rather clever with a basketball theme. 400 E Valley Blvd.
