Turdurkens at Silverlake Wine, Salsa Competition, More!

1) Firefighters Salsa Competition
When: November 11, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Where: El Coyote Cafe
What: The first annual Firefighters' Salsa Competition will be held at El Coyote, where firemen battle to make the best salsas served on tacos. Expect a margarita bar, a "celebrity" judge panel, and a firefighter dunk tank. Tickets cost $30 and all proceeds go to the Firemen's Fund for Widows, Orphans, and Disabled.

When: November 11, 3 p.m.
Where: Silverlake Wine
What: The Sunday tastings at Silverlake Wine are a weekly affair, but this week Heirloom LA will offer multiple Turduckens (chicken stuffed in a duck, then stuffed into a turkey), as well as brisket, shepherd's pie, Kurobuta porchetta, and whole roasted salmon. The meal comes with wine pairings for $20, but reservations are required.

When: November 11, 2-6 p.m.
Where: Space 15 Twenty
What: LA Hearts NY, a collaborative movement to help rebuild the hardest hit parts of New York from Hurricane Sandy, is putting together an emergency benefit. They're teaming up with with THE WORK magazine, KCRW's Chris Douridas, Intelligentsia Coffee, and Golden Road Brewery. There will be a silent auction and bake sale as well.

When: November 11, 2-5 p.m.
Where: Domaine LA
What: Star chef Ludo Lefebvre is signing his new cookbook, Ludobites, alongside New York Times wine writer Eric Asimov's How to Love Wine. Asimov (who will be there via 'webcam') has also selected five wines that will be poured at the signing while the Ludo Truck will serve the chef's signature bites.
