Coffee aromas and casual banter permeated Culver City's newest coffee shop, Cognoscenti Coffee, which was buzzing late this morning, with continued steady business throughout the afternoon. After an late approval yesterday from the Health Department, owner Yeekai Lim quietly (tried) to manage the first day with just himself and the help of his girlfriend, who's doing pourover brews and teas. He'll probably need more help in subsequent days, as the city's coffee geeks and aficionados collide at this sharp-looking space. The convivial atmosphere makes for a great community space catering to those living in the Culver City Arts District, with a changing lineup of top-notch roasters. San Francisco's Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters was in the espresso hopper today. Tomorrow could be Counter Culture, Phil & Sebastian, or Ritual Coffee.
