Although last week reps for The Melt confirmed that the Hollywood location would be first to launch, in fact today brings the debut of The Melt within FigAt7th. Hollywood follows this coming Saturday. And it's worthwhile to note that patrons who use the password "Brie" (via The Facebook) tomorrow (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) Downtown and on Saturday (noon to 5 p.m.) in Hollywood score a completely gratis meal. That's one melt (aka grilled cheese sandwich) and soup combo off this Michael Mina-designed menu.

As a quick recap, The Melt is a San Francisco-based quick serve grilled cheese concept founded by Flip cam creator Jonathan Kaplan. What differentiates this fast casual chain from others, aside from its Michael Mina menu, is that patrons can place orders online or via a smart phone. Stop by to pick up lunch and an employee will scan a QR code and one's food is ready in under a minute, which means no waiting in line.

Going forward, Kaplan has an aggressive business model in place to expand The Melt near and far.
