Alma, the modern American pop-up turned restaurant by Flour + Water alum Ari Taymor, has really grown into itself. First launched as a series of roving dining engagements from Venice to Silver Lake, Taymor settled on Alma's current site in June, stating that he planned to remain in the Downtown space for at least a year. But, with the above pictured recent renovation, a major update from the previously bare space, it seems like Taymor is laying the groundwork to stay for at least a while. And the chef is also working to secure a license to serve beer and wine.
So, what's new here? Everything. The general layout remains, but the dangling lights, communal table, seating and chef's counter are all new additions. Taymor has really transformed a fairly uninspired space into a calm, earthy, softly lit number which physically embodies his ingredient-driven, understated, innovative plates. Of which Jonathan Gold is a recent fan.
