Details on 41 Ocean and Chef Chris Crary's Menu

New, 10 comments

Although Chris Crary decamped from Whist at the Viceroy hotel last month, the chef has landed an executive chef position just a stone's throw away. 41 Ocean is that forthcoming 4,500 square-foot members only club by Jeremy Umland of Ozumo Concepts International. He's the guy behind Ozumo and Sonoma Wine Garden planted at nearby Santa Monica Place. Umland describes 41 Ocean as "a special place in Los Angeles where members can come together to eat, drink, and relax with fellow artists, executives, and professionals from all industries, including technology, music, entertainment, and hospitality," which really sounds like a west side version of Soho House.

Set to welcome members come mid-January, the space, once Tengu/Abode, includes a restaurant, cocktail lounge, piano bar, performance stage, and a screening room (with a 100-inch projection screen). As mentioned, Matt Winter is behind the venue's design which pays homage to the Spanish Colonial Revival Style via mosaic tiles, reclaimed wood and vintage finds. An outdoor patio will be equipped with fire pits.

41 Ocean's opening team consists of the following: Executive chef and partner Chris Crary, partner/membership director Max Russo, GM Matt Landes (The Montage Beverly Hills), and beverage consultant Noah Ellis (Red Medicine).

Crary will be responsible for feeding the 80-seater restaurant California cuisine like arugula with prosciutto, persimmon, feta, pecan, and lemon; lobster with arancini, pea puree, mint, apple, and chestnut veloute; and venison loin with salsify, coffee and coco crumble, huckleberry, and shiso. Crary is also in charge of desserts.
