Spanish Colonial Revival Style is Alive at 41 Ocean in SM

Although it opens to members in mid-January, 41 Ocean, that exclusive new club from Jeremy Umland of Ozumo Concepts International, cheffed by Chris Crary, has already started to host private events. A brunch here, a dinner there. And that means the restaurant and lounge is nearly complete. Up above, a full tour inside and out which begins with a bird cage and ends at a movie screening room. Past the vintage bar sits a rustic dining room, and beyond that a smaller nook filled with plush sofas and chairs for film screenings. The Spanish Colonial Revival Style aesthetic conceived by designer Matt Winter is ensconced through the cavernous venue from arched doorways to painted tiles to recovered vintage objects. Note the ubiquitous salvaged wood planks, those beams in the ceiling were hand-painted by Matt's brother, Daniel.

Chef Crary describes his California-style vintage American menu as an ode to food served in the '20s and '40s. There will be a canape section with bone marrow and caviar, and an overall attention to seafood. He's also trying to steer away from the small plate trend and serve medium sized dishes meant for sharing.

Still under construction and not pictured above is a private room only accessible through the kitchen. The small space will be used a cigar room or private dining space.
