Welcome to Meanwhile, In SGV a regular feature in which TC, our fearless leader in all things San Gabriel Valley, brings word of restaurant openings, closings, and other unsung, curious neighborhood goings on.
1) Monterey Park: Farm Cuisine has replaced the previously reported Ace Kitchen. All the congratulatory plants are in place, but no one actually knows how "farmy" Farm actually is, though the menu looks more Mendocino than 101 Noodle Express. 122 W Garvey Ave., Ste C
2) Alhambra: Despite the earlier claims by Blue Ocean Seafood management, the restaurant will NOT re-open on Garfield. There's a new for-lease sign next to the newly erected roof structure. 1412 S Garfield Ave.
3) Monterey Park: Feng Wei has begun its build-out at a small space facing Garvey Ave. The name translates to "Flavor," but from the 41 ABC license alone, no one can tell what regional Chinese cuisine will actually be presented. 133 W Garvey Ave., Ste C
4) San Gabriel: Taking over the old Ay Chung Noodle location, Spicy City is adding to the strength of WSGV's spice attack. Unlike San Diego's Spicy City, LA's Spicy City features Chongqing style Szechuan food, not Yunnan style spicy cuisine. There is a 24-item deli counter to accompany a menu that is 100-items strong. 140 W. Valley Blvd., Ste 208.
