Spoonful Lends Southern Charm to Studio City

Spoonful is the remake of Henry's Hat in Burbank. While some of the restaurant's original design remains, owner Frank Foley re-outfitted the Southern gastropub with oversized lighting fixtures, chandeliers, a tin ceiling, copper tables, and faux-Victorian couches — all of which are supposed to conjure a feel of the South. Columns and shutters, included. Television/film set designer Brandi Creason is responsible for the look, Foley hired her to devise a masculine Gone with the Wind aesthetic.

This is one of those places that serves drinks in Mason jars, and chef Victor Calderon plates Southern expectations like shrimp po boy and fried chicken. But eats vary toward American fusion via braised pork belly with a vanilla gastrique and spaghetti squash in a smoked tomato sauce. Hours of operation run Monday/Tuesday, 4 to 11 p.m., Wednesday/Thursday 4 p.m. to midnight, Friday 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., Saturday 9:30 to 1 a.m. and Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
