PASADENA— Pasadena is apparently where Asian brands go to be reborn as fusion flavors. Ten Ren opened its first Pasadena outlet called Flour + Tea. This small shop offers products evocative of the ever popular 85 Degrees, serving Ten Ren style (boba) milk teas and pastries. The latest branch of the Taiwanese tea shop is located at the bottom of a mixed use condo "The Dalton." While street parking is near impossible, there are plenty of sub-level spaces. [EaterWire] — TC
DOWNTOWN— Chefs Bruce Kalman (Urbano Pizza Bar) and Gavin Mills (Wood + Vine) have launched a new dinner series called Cooking with Friends. Their inaugural meal takes place on April 1 at Urbano and includes a multi-course pork spread prepared from a free-range, acorn-fed pig by way of ReRun Ranch in Lake Hughes, CA. Christina Perozzi and Hallie Beaune of The Beer Chicks will pair beverages. The $50 dinner benefits Alex's Lemonade Stands and commences at 4PM. For a resy call 213-614-1900 or email urbanopizzabar@gmail.com. [EaterWire]
SILVER LAKE— Daily Dish files a first impression on chef Eric Park's Black Hogg alongside a rather pitiful attempt at food porn: "Park reinterprets the famous St. John (and Spotted Pig) marrowbone by serving the split, roasted bone with sharply dressed cilantro instead of flat parsley and tortillas instead of toast –- it's different enough to become another dish entirely, a dish that tastes like Silver Lake instead of the London abattoir district."
