The writing is on the wall. Or, well, the writing is posted to a window. As speculated two weeks ago, downtown's modern craft beer pub and restaurant Public School, operated by Grill Concepts LLC (those behind Grill on the Alley and Daily Grill), is set to replace Fraiche in Culver City, a restaurant originally praised as a top cross-country newcomer. An ABC license went up yesterday confirming this transition of concept and ownership, which leaves Santa Monica's branch of Fraiche in the wake.
Right now Public School maintains one location downtown at Flower and 6th, here is a copy of the food and drinks menu. Note craft beer available on tap, in bottle, in 750ml bottle, in can, wine by bottle and glass, plus a few signature cocktails. The globally-inspired small plate bar menu ranges from edamame hummus to Schezwan calamari to chicken meatballs, of course there's a pub burger, a lamb burger, and French fries served in a brown bag with Sriracha ketchup and mustard barbecue sauce. Likely some competition for nearby City Tavern.
