Greenbar Collective Sets Up Distillery Downtown

Beer breweries are so last year. This year, LA gets its very own distillery, Greenbar Collective. It's the first to open in the county since prohibition, according to husband and wife team and owners Litty Mathew and Melkon Khosrovian. The couple have been making liquor in SoCal since 1994 -- out of Monrovia. Their original concept was called Modern Spirits. Spurred by increased demand for their products and the revitalization of downtown, they are bringing their renamed Greenbar Collective west. The new space will begin operations next week. While the distillery is not open to the public, Greenbar's research and development team will be partnering with bartenders and mixologists around town to host a monthly cocktail class. Open to the public, each class will be limited to 12 and cost $20. The first class is scheduled for the end of May. [EaterWire]
