Restaurateur Michael Cardenas (IDG, Lazy Ox, Toranoko) is excited to announce that he is in escrow to overtake Tudor House on 2nd and Santa Monica to open that previously mentioned Spanish concept (which was originally slated for Culver City) with current Lazy Ox chef Perfecto Rocher. Taberna Arros y Vi will manifest as a 3,300 square foot wood-fire Paella-focused restaurant with a stand-up tapas bar serving boutique Spanish and local beers plus Spanish wine late into the night. Chef Rocher, a Valencia, Spain native, is a third generation paella maker (he tested out a few recipes at The Ox during Paella week) who counts stints at El Bulli in Spain, Manor House Hotel in London, and the Beverly Wilshire's Blvd restaurant as part of his schooling.
K. Aihama from Projex Pacific (Toranoko) will handle construction with Alexis Readinger of Preen (Hatfield's, Sweet Lady Jane SM) to design. Cardenas describes the aesthetic as a mix of Brooklyn's Fette Sau meets Wurstkuche meets The Old Place. Upon entering, diners will see the stand-up tapas bar, and behind that a casual sit-down dinner spot with booths, wood tables, and exposed brick. Cardenas/Rocher aim to serve Angelenos a “true taste of Catalunya” this coming August/September.
