The nightlife options along Hollywood Blvd sustain a fairly dense cluster of late night dining spots, but there's always room for more. Playhouse at Hollywood and Wilcox has Joe's Pizza just next door, and it had - until this past January - the adjacent Sweet Love Hangover, that retro diner which opened about two and a half years ago. As reported quite some time ago, management was looking to swap out SLH, and word just in that Calle Tacos (pronounced "Cay- yay") claims SLH's ground May 5, Cinco de Mayo.
LA now boasts tons of food trucks, and even food trucks that have gone on to open permanent brick and mortar restaurants. But how about a non-post and beam permanent food truck restaurant? Welcome to LA's first Trestaurant. Muse Lifestyle Group (Playhouse, Romanov’s, Chi Dynasty) will position an actual food truck, Calle Tacos, in the former SLH space and a retractable garage door will separate the truck from Hollywood Blvd. Of course with a Mexican taco truck one needs authentic Mexican cooks, thus Muse brought on the Villaseñor family (a family that has collectively owned 35 restaurants over the years) to prepare their "secret family recipes." Patrons select protein, toppings, and sauce, which are then formatted into street tacos. Calle means "street" in Spanish. [EaterWire]
