Last night, Spirit House soft opened on the second floor of Lincoln Plaza Hotel, replacing five-year-old Silk Lounge. Owner David Tewasart, an SGV resident, is a first time bar operator, but a seasoned restaurateur (Soi7, Green Papaya). He has brought on Sybil Lin of Far Bar to concoct a Asian-inflected crafty drinks menu, but retained the necessities to appease the vacationing Chinese impresarios who frequent this busy hotel. In other words, there will be Heinies, there will be Tsingtao.
However, the Spirit House team speaks expectantly of the "keg room," which will be filled with Cali beers (Golden Brew IPA is already on tap, as is TAPS, Hangar 24 and Bootleggers). There is no other place in the West San Gabriel Valley where one can find an Old Fashioned flavored by a flamed orange peel, and nowhere else in the entire country where one can order phoenix claws (steamed chicken feet) with a Bootleggers Hef during, or after typical dimsum hours. Spirit House is supported by the kitchen of Lincoln Seafood, which shares the building. Right now Spirit House currently closes at midnight Thu-Sat, but regular business hours will see a 2AM shutter.
