Just a few months in to his stint at Lexington Social House, chef Jared Simons (who no longer rocks the guyliner) has decamped to rejoin friend Steven Arroyo and take over culinary duties at the new La Otra Escuela. In a fateful turn of events, this is actually a return to home turf, of sorts, for Simons, who worked on the menu at Corbas & Matadors, the previous eatery that ceded space to LOE. Simons explains that LOE will expand on Escuela's taco menu, and many of the new items are inspired by memories and stories Arroyo has shared with him about growing up in East LA. Expect a wider variety of Mexican plates from salads to composed dishes and, for the summer, a focus on seafood. LOE should open next weekend.
