A few weeks ago, Eater drove past the defunct Tar Pit space on La Brea and noticed signage was down and it looked like new management had claimed ground. Now, word in that none other than Jason Bernstein and James Starr, the boys behind popular Fairfax cafe The Golden State, are the proud new parents. What exactly does this mean? Well, it's not entirely clear whether the duo will open a second Golden State or try out a new concept, although rumors hinted at a second Golden State a while back.
However, on La Brea they have a full 47 license, which means they can sell all means of booze, one up from the beer and wine situation at their original haunt. So, perhaps a more formalized, larger iteration of The Golden State stocking craft brews, Scoops ice cream, and a better burger? To be determined.

Update: LAT later follows up with another piece explaining that Kevin Bludso (Bludso's BBQ in Compton) is a partner in the currently unnamed venture, and the restaurant and bar should open by the end of this year. Much of Bludso's barbecue menu will be on offer here and the kitchen will be equipped with a smoker. Think craft beer and cocktails that pair with barbecue.
